About Us
The Sedgemoor Shire Stud is situated close to the village of Smallwood in the Cheshire countryside near the Staffordshire border line.
Sedgemoor is very much a family run business with all of the involved parties pouring their heart and soul into every booking, we make sure that we go the extra mile to make your day as memorable as possible.
At Sedgemoor we ensure that when you book with us you get the service you deserve, whether it be a fairytale wedding in our one off traditional glass landau white horse drawn carriage or the majestic journey to take loved ones to their resting place in our traditional black horse drawn funeral hearse.
Remember it's your day we will do what ever we can to make it as special as possible, all you need to do is ask.
It doesn't just stop there though, here at Sedgemoor we also breed quality Shire horses and Clydesdale horses which enable us to give so much back to the majestic gentle giants whom form such a very important part of our lives. With the "HEAVIES" becoming ever more increasingly scarce, we feel it our responsibility to add to the numbers so that generations to come can see the horse that was the background to Britain's farming and transport industry in Years gone by.
The stud managers have been involved in keeping horses all their lives and the family are from a farming background. We have always been around heavy horses, including Gypsy Vanners, Clydesdales and the Suffolk Punch, but in particular the shire horses. We concentrate on keeping and breeding healthy, quality horses that are well handled and accustomed to human contact. At Sedgemoor the horses aren't just animals they are part of the family.
Please browse the web site for information. You are more than welcome to visit the farm to see the horses by appointment. Thanks for visiting Sedgemoor Shires.
History
We have worked with animals all our lives, having been brought up on my Grandfathers farm. We have always loved Shire Horses and bought our first in 2000 when we opened the business Sedgemoor Shires. We have been breeding Shire Horses ever since. We invested in a wedding carriage in 2006 when we started to do horse drawn weddings. We also invested in a Dray Carriage which we use to do rides of up to 12 people at various locations.
Future Plans
We hope to continue breeding Shire & Clydesdale horses well in to the future to help ensure their continuing future as a breed.
